Artificial Intelligence Paths

The Beacon AI Centres data centre in Chestermere will require a range of specialized occupations for both its construction and its ongoing operation. The project is anticipated to create more than 300 permanent, highly-skilled operational jobs.

Occupations for Operating an AI Data Centre

The following is a list of roles found necessary to maintain the constant uptime, high performance, security, and specialized needs of a facility focused on Artificial Intelligence and high-density computing. Note, this is not a list of current Beacon AI Centre planned positions, but rather a starting point for thinking about related learning paths that might help secure employment in this AI field.

  • Data Centre Technicians: Day-to-day monitoring, maintenance, troubleshooting, and replacement of servers, networking gear, and other hardware.
  • Network Engineers/Architects: Designing, implementing, and managing the high-speed, low-latency networking infrastructure essential for AI workloads.
  • Cloud Operations Engineers: Managing the public, private, or hybrid cloud infrastructure used to run AI applications and services.
  • Artificial Intelligence / Machine Learning Engineers: Roles focused on the specific AI hardware (like specialized GPUs and AI accelerators) and the software platforms running the artificial intelligence models.
  • Database Administrators (DBAs): Managing the storage, security, and organization of the massive datasets required for AI training and operation.
  • Security Analysts/Engineers: Protecting the physical and digital infrastructure from threats, which is critical due to the value of AI data and intellectual property.
